Historical Gearboxes/Drive bolts – Information

Surface-mounted window mechanisms have fallen out of fashion here, but they are still very common in France, for example. They are particularly suitable as decorative elements for box windows with inner sashes.

Lockable olive handles for window mechanisms can only be manufactured under certain conditions, namely if the olive handle allows the installation of a lock cylinder with a diameter of 12 mm.

A small tip for burglary protection of mechanisms: drill a hole through the loop and rod and insert a pin. This secures the mechanism. Any olive can be attached to all window mechanisms as a handle, see chapter "Window olives". A number of gear mechanisms can be fitted with a special locking tongue on the side of the lock case, which secures the locking function not only at the top and bottom, but also in the middle of the window.

For windows with a rebate, either screw-in brackets or the overlap must be specified so that appropriate shims can be supplied for the end loops. This information is important for our quotation. Gear rods are supplied in raw, galvanised, black and, on request, also in brass.

Drive bolts
in their modern form are commonly found on garage doors today. Older versions were often used on windows and French doors. They function in the same way as surface-mounted gear mechanisms. A rod locks both upwards and downwards.
